Third World Nepali Literature Conference concluded, inaugurated by Prime Minister Oli, former Chief Minister Chamling honoured

On September 26 and 27, 2024, the Third World Nepali Literature Conference was inaugurated by Prime Minister Khadag Prasad Oli, organized by the Global Federation for Nepali Literature, Central Committee.

The two-day “Literary World Conference” was concluded with grandeur at Hotel Ananda Pashupati Gausala in Kathmandu. Honourable Prime Minister Oli inaugurated the program, presented felicitations, honours, awards, and released books. During his comprehensive speech, Prime Minister Oli expressed that Nepalis should take their language, literature, and culture with them wherever they go. He also emphasized that while creating literature, one should write seriously after studying and reflecting, not for cheap popularity. The program was attended by a large number of distinguished personalities including Ayameli and former academic Chancellor Bairagi Kaila, senior litterateur and former Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali, senior writer and Chairman of Sajha Prakashan Dr. Bijay Subba, senior poet and cultural expert Tulsi Diwas, senior scholar Prof. Dr. Govinda Raj Bhattarai, former His Excellency Ambassador Bhim Udas, former His Excellency Ambassador Milan Raj Tuladhar, Head of the Central Nepali Department of Tribhuvan University Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Neupane, Prof. Dr. Deven Sapkota from Assam, Prof. Dr. Rajkumar Chhetri from Darjeeling, Prof. Dr. Yogesh Khati from Kharsang, senior poet and writer Prof. Shashi Lumumbu, Central President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association Dr. Badri K.C., President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association Binod Kuwar, senior writer Biru Wangdel from Sikkim, former President of the Central Committee of the Global Federation for Nepali Literature Biswasdip Tigela from the UK, senior poet and writer Momila Joshi, senior poet Biplav Prateek and dozens of other distinguished personalities. Various distinguished personalities of national and international level were also awarded and honoured.

First, distinguished literary figure and former Chief Minister of Sikkim India, Pawan Chamling, was given the “Shikhar Sahitya Abhinandan” by the Federation for his invaluable contribution to the upliftment and development of Nepali language and literature.

Similarly, the 8 Literature Ambassador Awards to be given in the name of the 8 mountains of Nepal that are higher than 8 thousand meters are as follows: 1. Sahitya Doot (Literary ambassador) Sagarmatha – Prof. Dr. Ganga Prasad Prasai, Chancellor of Tripura University, India. 2. Sahitya Doot Kanchenjunga – Prof. Dr. Sanjeev Upreti, Senior Writer and Critic, Kathmandu. 3. Sahitya Doot Lhotse – Dr. Shankar Dev Dhakal, Coordinator, Indian Academy of Literature Consultative Committee, Delhi. 4. Sahitya Doot Makalu – Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Ghimire, Arghakhanchi, Service Commission Member, Lumbini Technical University and former Department Head, Tribhuvan University Central Nepali Department. 5. Sahitya doot Choyu – Professor Bharti Limbu, Thailand. 6. Sahitya doot Dhaulagiri- Shikhar Kavi Shailendra Sakar, Kathmandu. 7. Sahitya doot Manaslu – Mr. Vishwaprem Adhikari, Chancellor of Putlibazar Municipality Pragya – Foundation, Syangja. 8. Sahitya Doot Annapurna – Shri Ichcharam Guragai, Burma lived.

Likewise, the Indian citizens who received Nepali Literature honours are respectively 1. Padmashri Dr. Yese Dorje Thongsi, India (Assamese writer). 2. Dr. Gokul Kshatriya, Gujarat, India (Hindi writer). 3. Dr. Premananda Roy, West Bengal, India (Bengali writer). Likewise, Chinese citizens: 1. Prof. Dr. Wang Zhong Head, Department of South Asian Languages, Yunnan University, Kunming, China. 2. Prof. Dr. Qing Yun Director, Nepali Language Teaching and Research Center, University of International Studies, Beijing, China. 3. Mr. Zhang Yue, Chief, CCTV Bureau Office. Japanese Citizens: 1. Mr. Yuko Okamoto, Wako University, Tokyo, Japan. Bangladeshi Citizens: 1. Mr. Sultan Ahmed Sona, Bangladesh (Bangla Literature).

The GFNL, Araniko Award was given to 1. Mr. Chetnath Acharya, working in China, while this year’s GFNL Outstanding Member was 1. Mr. Kalpana Poudel Jignasu, Nepalgunj, while the GFNL, Nepal Branch Outstanding Province was awarded to 1. Lek Prasad Pyakurel, Lumbini Province President.

Similarly, the awardees for the best environmental poem of the year were: 1. Mr. Kishan Poudel, Hetauda, first place – Rs. 15,000 and a certificate. 2. Mr. Sameep Bairagi, Rolpa, second place – Rs. 10,000 and a certificate. 3. Mr. Bharati Neupane, Kathmandu, third place – Rs. 5,000 and a certificate.

In the program, which was attended by various countries of the world, 14 books were also launched simultaneously. The 14 books that were launched simultaneously are as follows.

  1. The regular publication of the Global federation for Nepali literature “Sahitya Sansar” (Annual publication). 2. The regular publication of the Nepal branch of the Global federation for Nepali literature “Nepal Darpan”. 3. The regular publication of the Lumbini Province of the Global federation for Nepali literature “Lumbini Darpan”. 4. The regular publication of the Karnali Province of the Global federation for Nepali literature “Karnali Darpan”. 5. The collection of poems “Buddhako Desham” (Buddha’s Country) by the Secretary of the Publications of the World Nepali Literature Federation. 6. Binesam’s publication of the work “Kalpadhwani” by the organization secretary and president of the Nepal branch Kalpana Poudel Jigyasu. 7. Binesam’s publication of the central treasurer Dr. KB Poudel’s “Mero Katha”. 8. Binesam’s publication of the central member Devika Mangarati Rai’s “Kavyaprekshan” by the India branch. 9. Binesam’s publication of the work “Bankeka Nari Shrasta Ra Srijana” by the Lumbini Province President Lek Prasad Pyakurel. 10. Binesam’s publication of the work “Indu” by the Lumbini Province Treasurer Indira Gautam Nirbhik. 11. Kalpana Foundation’s “Kalpankur”. 12. Binesam’s publication of the Hindi poetry collection “Dhup-Chhaam” by the Hindi writer Dr. Gokul Kshatriya. 13. Shikhar Kavi Shailendra Sakar’s “Sakar Samaya”. 14. Shikhar Kavi Shailendra Sakar’s book “Manko Koni Kuna” was also published.

Since the program was organized with the main slogan “The Globalization of Nepali Literature, Our Campaign”, Prof. Dr. Govinda Raj Bhattarai presented a working paper on this main topic. Prof. Dr. Rajkumar Chhetri commented on it. Similarly, since the current pressing issue is environmental problems, Prof. Dr. Deven Sapkota of Assam, who has been working in the field of environment for a long time, presented a working paper.

The program was attended by many Vice-Chancellors of various universities, Chancellors of academies, Vice-Chancellors, intellectual figures of national and international level, distinguished writers and writers, heads of departments of universities, professors, ambassadors, famous personalities directly concerned with society, artists, writers, etc.
The program was divided into five sessions. The second session of the program was the main session of the conference. Working papers were presented in this session. There were some creative readings and special speeches. Although there were some speeches in the third session, creative readings were the main one. The fourth session was a closed session. Only the Federation family participated in this session. It reported on the work done by the branches and future plans.

The main focus of the fifth session was also some speeches and creative presentations. Thus, the two-day World Conference concluded with the issuance of a five-point declaration at 2 pm on September 27. After dinner, at 3 pm, the foreign guests were interviewed by the Honourable President of Nepal Mr Ram Chandra Poudel at his government resident Sital Niwas, and visited various places in Kathmandu, and on the morning of September 28, the guests who had come from far away were bid farewell. The 3rd World Nepali Literature Conference has been concluded with huge successful.
